Hello Nicole,

I would suggest trying to download the 3.5.2 that is provided here to replace the current sociable plugin you have right now (back it up first, of course). When you download the provided 3.5.2 that is provided here, be sure to change the bit.ly credentials in the bitly.php file. That’s the only thing you would need to change, no password needed anywhere.

Let me know if you still encounter problems.

Hi Jack,

Thanks for these instructions. This will be a perfect solution for my client, but at the moment Im getting the same blank page as Michaela mentioned in the first comment. Im using 3.5.2. Should I deactivate the original Sociable plugin and download the mod you linked to here? I made sure my bitly login name and api key were included. Does the password need to be in there anywhere? Thanks for your help!

Hello David,

Did you make sure to disable the original sociable plugin in your plugin list? It looks like it’s conflicting with the original sociable plugin that you installed.

got this error when I uploaded the bit.ly mod:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare sociable_init_locale() (previously declared in /blog/wp-content/plugins/sociable/sociable.php:48) in /blog/wp-content/plugins/sociable-bitly-mod-3.5.2/sociable.php on line 47

Any idea what i should do?

Thanks Jwong – almost got confused there because it there were two nearly identical lines of code in the php file

The first line had periods before/after the “$URL” and the second line didn’t have those dots….

@Dennis – upon further inspection, there is a problem. I think I’ve fixed it though. I’ve added code to strip out any unusual characters from the title and excerpt (which includes the # character), so it won’t cause the code to break. Caveat is that it won’t show up in the post once it converts over, so the tweet won’t have the # character in it, but you can always just modify the tweet to add it back in before posting. Please re-download the 3.5.2 mod zip pack. Also, be sure to replace the [BITLY LOGIN] and [BITLY API KEY] with your own (I think in the previous set, I had left in iSynergy’s login and API key, oops).

Hi there; I’m using Sociable 3.5.2 and nowhere in the PHP file can I find the code to change for the Google Analytics tip. Has it been removed?

@Steve Lunceford – Sorry, the script was modified a bit and the post wasn’t updated to reflect that. I’ve updated it to indicate the difference for 3.5.2 and 3.5.1. The line you should be looking for is:

$link .= ” href=\”".$url.”\” title=\”$description\”>”;

@Dennis – I wasn’t aware of the problem, but I’ll have to poke around a bit and get back to you.

Hi!
I have a little problem with your sociable-bitly-mod-3.5.2, because it doesn’t work in the right way with twitter, when there’s a # in the title of the post.

For example try to twitter this link with the post title Babbel-Net Podcast #30:
http://www.babbel-net.com/podcasts/babbel-net-podcast-30

Is there a chance to fix this without not using a # in the post title?
